Hey, what’s up…I’m Sam. And I love to travel.
My first adult trip was to Cancun after college. But when I really started traveling was 2016. I visited Hawaii, and I was hooked. I was captivated with the beauty of Maui, the amazing food, and the adventures I had on the island. But I was also thrilled while puzzling out the flights for the trip and seeking out new airlines. I made my first redemption of frequent flier miles to sit in first class on the way home from the islands. And after that trip, I wanted to never not have another one planned.
Since then, I’ve taken quick long weekends to neighboring states and flown and flown around the world while showering at 40,000 feet in the sky. I feel incredibly fortunate for the experiences that I’ve been lucky enough to have so far, but I have a massive bucket list remaining, so join me while I continue to explore the world.
I’m Sam, and I love to travel. So I started collecting frequent flier points, finding ways to make my work more flexible, and traveling near and far to explore the world. As I saw cities and cultures that were unfamiliar to me, somehow that intrinsically helped me learn about myself. Skywards Sam is a blog about that journey, borne from my passion and desire to help you start a journey of your own.
Origins of Skywards Sam
I began writing about my travels anytime I felt introspective after a trip. Very soon, I had tons of stories saved in a Google Doc that only I could see, and I decided it was time to share those stories with the world. Hence, Skywards Sam was born.
The name Skywards Sam has a bit of a double meaning. “Skywards” most obviously refers to my love of aviation and travel by plane. But Skywards is also the name of Emirates’ miles program, a reference to my expertise and love of miles and points. That, combined with the alliteration, makes it the perfect name.
As I brought Skywards Sam online, I had a vision for the site. My background is in digital project management for websites, and I wanted to apply those best practices that I had learned over years of doing that work to my blog and display my stories, along with my photos, in a captivating magazine-style way.
I pulled together all these ideas, all these experiences, and all this knowledge into the resource that Skywards Sam is today. So click around, read about my latest adventures, and then get ready to start your own!
